Asoke Deysarkar, Owner of PfP Industries, was born in Gua, a small mining town in India. He earned his B.Sc. and B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology where he graduated with distinct honors. Asoke eventually moved to the U.S. in 1978 to begin his career, but little did he know that his home country would literally and figuratively plant the seed for the multi-million-dollar company that exists today.
After attaining his Masters and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Greater Manchester (Salford), Asoke became well immersed in the oil and gas industry, starting his career at Dresser Industries (acquired by Halliburton) in Houston as a project engineer involved in projects related to hydraulic fracturing, acidizing, and fluid rheology. He went on to Pennzoil Products Company (acquired by Shell Oil) in Houston, working in various capacities as a research scientist, research manager, and product manager involved in refining, consumer products, basic research, and other aspects of the industry. He also managed the business relationship between the US and Japan and became the primary liaison for Japanese OEMs as it relates to lubricants.
Following his time with Pennzoil, Asoke’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch his first business: “Products for People”, a Houston-based company that formulated and distributed products for automotive after-market. He then embarked on another product line involving guar, a tiny seed grown mainly in India. Guar, a naturally occurring polymer used as a thickener for water in fracturing of oil and gas wells, became the basis for the venture that would eventually spin off into the full-scale stimulation chemicals company we know today as PfP Industries.
Over the years, Asoke and his team have expanded PfP Industries to include five companies, a guar manufacturing plant in India, and distribution sites across the U.S. Asoke is not only the founder of a Top 100 Company in Houston, but also is tied to philanthropy work both locally and in India. He and his wife, Ruma, are involved in propagating Tagore’s message, creating a Petroleum Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur, and other projects. They also helped to build a Tagore Grove in Miller Park in W. Houston.
Mickey Callanan, Chief Executive Officer and Part Owner of PfP Industries, is a native Houstonian with a BS and MS degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer. Mickey’s career began in 1980 at Dresser Titan where he worked as a Research Engineer in developing products and testing methods for hydraulic fracturing chemicals and materials. Subsequently he worked at ACME Resin and Sintex Minerals developing and marketing proppant products for fracturing applications.
Mickey worked with Asoke Deysarkar to establish PfP Industries in 2001. He came on-board as President of PfP Technology in 2009 and helped to develop the strategies and reputation of the entrepreneurial company known today for its stimulation chemicals, equipment and logistical facets, PfP Industries.
During his 35-year career, Mickey has authored numerous technical papers and U. S. patents related to hydraulic fracturing processes and products.
Chris Carpenter, Chief Strategy Officer for PfP Industries, joined the company in 2011 after serving in multiple capacities throughout the oilfield industry. He began his career working in development labs for large chemical suppliers including Univar and TETRA Technologies. He later transitioned to a resin coated proppant company, Hexion, as a technical development specialist then quickly progressed through various sales positions before becoming Area Manager. He joined PfP’s account management team in 2011 and became President of PfP Technology to oversee the company’s stimulation chemicals division. He also served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing and President of PRRO Water. At PRRO Water, Chris focused on building a full service water treatment company to provide sustainable water management to oil and gas, mining, industrial, agricultural and municipal waste companies. He believes the greatest results arise from straightforward communication and integrity.
Suresh Pala, Chief Financial Officer for PfP Industries, is a founding member of PfP Industries. Prior to joining PfP, Suresh ran his own CPA firm serving small businesses in various industries across the United States for 18 years. Suresh became acquainted with the concept of PfP through his client, Ground Technology, an engineering company owned and operated by Ruma Acharya, Asoke Deysarkar’s wife. As part of the founding team, Suresh worked on getting PfP off the ground in 2001 while continuing to run his accounting firm. In 2011, he joined PfP Industries full time as the CFO. He believes success is found in building strong rapport with internal and external customers and always striving to “do what is right”. Suresh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from M.S. University of Baroda India and speaks five languages: English, Kudrhati, Swahili, Hindi, and French.
